Farming for the Future

Paddock-scale trials for innovative pastures & farm practices

WICC has secured funding to support farmers to trial new & improved pasture crops & fodder shrubs under our local conditions. Pasture trials will be planted in the 2027 growing season. 10 farmers wanting to trial new species, pasture mixes or cropping styles can receive:

  • Seed allowance for 5 ha pasture
  • Seeding allowance (contribution towards cost of seeding contractor)
  • Agronomic support – advice on weed control, fertilizer planning, pasture establishment, interpretation of soil and plant tissue test results and troubleshooting.
  • Fodder/feed testing to compare the nutritional value of your innovative paddock’s produce to a standard “business as usual” hay or silage crop.
  • Locally suitable fodder shrubs/trees.

Farmers outside the Wilson Inlet catchment are also eligible & welcome to apply.

Thank you for your response. ✨

What type of new pasture crop/stock feed source would you like to trial on your farm?(required)
Do you have recent (last 1-2 years) soil test results for your farm, measuring at minimum standard macronutrients (P, K, S, pH, PBI)?(required)
If you haven’t soil tested recently, would you be willing to soil test this summer (2026/2027), so results can inform the pasture trial?(required)
Do you have a preferred agronomist?
Can we contact you further to discuss your plans?

Thanks for your interest. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
